Live Music – Band Nights

On the last Friday of every month we hold a live music night. It’s always a really enjoyable evening with a great atmosphere and promises a great night of live music.

The Hare and Hounds has had a number of bands perform recently, these include The Repertoire Dogs, Cover Station & Dr RealGood.

The genre of music played is always a really varied mix with 60's hits such as the Stones and the Beatles modern classics like Oasis and Kings of Leon.

  Karaoke Nights

If you’re a game girl or guy and up for a laugh, then this is the night for you!

We don’t take ourselves too seriously here and aim to have as much fun as possible.

With thousand and thousands of song choices there really is something for everyone!

Ear plugs are recommended but not supplied!

  St Valentine’s Day

St Valentine’s Day 2012 was an extra special for all those that came along to The Hare and Hounds for a romantic gourmet meal.

Our head chef Steve Chase prepared a mouth-watering menu that would warm any heart.

With options such as a French Seafood Platter to share, Fillet Steak and Steve’s Minted Chocolate Cup with popping candy and coconut ice, it guaranteed happy hearts and full bellies!

Bonfire Night 2011

Bonfire Night on November 5th is celebrated due to Guy Fawkes failed gunpowder plot when he attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament of Westminster.

Here at The Hare & Hounds believing bigger is always better, we celebrated with a MAGNIFICENT firework display within the grounds.

New landlord and landlady Mark & Kerry King kicked off their very first Hare & Hounds bonfire party with a BANG! Preparations started weeks in advance, a gigantic Bonfire was erected in the Paddock by Martin the bar manager with the help of some of the local farmers.

Local businessman Ian Freshwater Director of Maldon Building Services also donated an impressive firework for the Grand Finale.

Hundreds flocked to watch the display and enjoy the hospitality and warm welcoming environment that The Hare and Hounds offers.

Don't worry if you missed last years display as we are already planning this years and we're anticipating it'll be bigger and even better!

Halloween Psychic Supper

Last year we wanted to host something special for Halloween so when two mediums got in touch asking if they could hold a spiritualist event we decided what better night then October 31st.

The Hare and Hounds Physic supper was a roaring success, the restaurant was fully booked with tickets purchased in advanced at £25 per head, this included a spooky 3 course supper with dishes such as Horseradish Roasted Top-Side of Werewolf, Pan Roasted Fillet of Wizards Nomlas, Eye of Newt - Leg of Frog Country Pate with witches hat toast and Eve’s Downfall Fruit Crumble.

The mediums named Amber and Vikki entered the Restaurant half way through the sitting to contact the other side which was really interesting as The Hare and Hounds has a few resident ghouls that frequent the restaurant and bar and have been seen by customers and staff.

After dinner Amber and Vikki gave some really accurate reading to some very shocked customers, they also done some private readings after.

If you missed the event then please don’t fret, next years Halloween promises to be as spookishly magnificent as this years! See you there!

The Jef Schils memorial race 2011

The Jef Schils Memorial Race took place on Sunday 4th September 2011. Jef was a top class cyclist and won 87 races as a youth. In one year he won 18 of the 19 races he entered. The one he did not win was in the Belgium National Championships because his frame broke. Jef became National Belgium Champion in 1952 age 20. In 1953 the day before he was due to start his military service, he won Paris-Tours in a record breaking average speed of 43.53kph.

The race was held on a 19.5km circuit and a distance of 136km. The race stayed together for the first few laps and the heavy rain contributed to a few nervous crashes and plenty of punctures.

This was a fantastic event that would have made Jef proud and it was a fitting tribute to his memory, and thanks to the entire Belgium contingent for bringing a piece of Belgium to Essex including the weather.

The winner Jason White was followed closely by Joeri Buekin for second place and David Nichols Scooped third.

The finish hot-spot was here outside The Hare & Hounds with a huge marquee on the green. We also laid on a bouncy castle and a racing ride for the kids in the gardens. We would like to thank all involved in organising such a wonderful event and thank everybody that stopped by afterwards for refreshments.

Wine Tasting

On the evening of Thursday 22nd September 2011, The Hare & Hounds held their first Wine Tasting Event.

The evening was designed to allow visitors to discuss and take notes on the aromas and flavours that they experienced and also allowed them to assess the overall quality of the wines.

A selection of Whites, Reds and Roses were on offer to sample all complemented with a delicious platter of cheeses and biscuits.
